Tikiri(PR)To penetrate the awareness on Sickle Cell Awareness at block and grassroot level, Utkal Alumina International Limited, a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries Limited (UAIL) of Aditya Birla Group had flagged off the block level Sickle Cell Awareness Program in collaboration with Health & FW Department, Rayagada on 28th November 2023 at Bilamal village of Kashipur Block, Rayagada. 
The major elements of the campaign would include sensitization & orientation of the communities on Sickle Cell disease through public announcements, Nukkad Natak, wall painting and screening camps. 
Hibah, a 16-year-old student from Aditya Birla Public School (ABPS) volunteered for the social cause to sensitise the tribal communities on the debilitating disease. She was at the forefront of the event to promote understanding of the Sickle Cell Anaemia, its symptoms and agony while dispelling the misinformation & stigma pertaining to the disease. She had conducted a detail session and oriented the community, particularly tribal ladies about the disease and its preventive measures. 
Mr. Mazhar Beig, Unit Head and President Utkal Alumina, Ms Hina Beig, President, Ujjwal Utkal Ladies Club, Ms. Manisha Das BDO Kashipur, Dr. Janmejaya Das, Medical officer Kashipur CHC, Mr. Sunil Kumar Ray Block Program Manager Kashipur, Ms Lopamudra Mishra, Head CSR & CR, Ms. Niharika Sahoo, Department Head Plant CSR were among the dignitaries present in the occasion.  
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Manisha Das, acknowledged the collaborative efforts of District Administration and Utkal Alumina in addressing Sickle Cell Anaemia’s impact on individuals, families, and communities of this region. 
“Let us join hands in creating a united front against Sickle Cell Anaemia. Together, we can make a significant impact by raising awareness, promoting early detection, and fostering a supportive environment for those affected by this condition”, as deliberated by Mr. Mazhar Beig, Unit Head and President, Utkal Alumina.  
Around 200 community people including PRI representatives from nearby villages had witnessed the event. The event was coordinated by CSR department of Utkal Alumina.
